This is the Haribo Goldbears Wild Berry. It was a limited edition variation containing wild berry flavours, flavoured using artificial and natural flavours but without fruit juice.
The gummies were all in the same stylized bear shape, each measuring about 2 cm in size. Each bag contained five wild berry flavours, all with an identical, indistinguishable fruity aroma:
- Blueberry (top left, blue) – a bright acidity emerged mid-bite, adding a brighter dimension to the initial fruity sweetness to deliver a flavour reminiscent of blueberries.
- Raspberry (bottom left, orange-red) – captured the sweetness of the fruit, evoking a mellow raspberry jam, but it was very subdued and lacked the vibrant tartness characteristic of the fruit.
- Wild cherry (centre, pink-red) – most immediately recognisable as cherry, with a mellow cherry flavour that some might associate with medicine, but overall also very subdued compared to other cherry-flavoured candies on the market.
- Strawberry (top right, green) – delivered the tartness of strawberries with little sweetness. The combination with the gelatin gave it a flavour reminiscent of sour, degraded plastic, which was odd.
- Wildberry (bottom right, purple) – a dark, musky berry flavour was immediate, reminiscent of a blend of black currant and blackberry, with an intense and rich finish. This was the best of the five flavours.
Overall, we enjoyed the novelty of the wild berry flavours, but prefer the richer and more intense fruity flavours of the original Goldbears.
