This Ohayo Smooth Ice Fruit Bar Kiwi contained 18% kiwifruit juice from New Zealand.
Each bar was around 7 x 3 x 2 cm in size with an opaque pastel green colour speckled with flecks of crushed ice. Upon tasting, the bar delivered the bright flavour of kiwifruit with all the ripe sweetness of the fresh fruit and without any hint of puckering tartness. Despite the opaque appearance suggesting the presence of dairy, the bar was creamy and smooth without overt dairy notes. At the same time, the crushed ice brought an intentional crunchy texture that was distinct from the mouthfeel of ice crystals formed that resulted from freezer burn. For a short while after finishing the bar, the relatively high kiwifruit juice content left our tongues numb and tingly in the same way fresh kiwifruit or pineapple can cause similar reactions in some people.
