Peters Drumstick x Messina Dulce de Leche

This Peters Drumstick x Messina Dulce de Leche is the last of the four flavours released in the collaboration. With a stream of positive reviews online as well as shoppers with multiple boxes in their trolleys instore, we were eager to locate our own box to see what we were missing out on even though we’d understood the popularity of dulce de leche.

It’s described as a ‘one of a kind flavour made with Messina’s trademark dulce de leche sauce, mixed with chocolate coated biscuit pieces’. According to Messina, the dulce de leche used here made by Messina and sent off to the Peters factory to be used in the range. It’s much the same as the one used instore for their Super Dulce flavour with the major difference being that the one made for Peters has a higher viscosity to accommodate their machinery.

Unwrapping the cone, the dulce de leche sauce drizzled on top threatens to drip down the side so it’s evident why they needed to increase the viscosity of the sauce. Upon tasting, the dulce de leche sauce has a milky and silky caramel-like flavour that mellowed as we reach the flavoured ice cream itself. The ice cream is smooth and creamy with the (somewhat scarce) ribbons of dulce de leche adding punctated pops of richness. Overall, though, we’re still not sure what makes this flavour so popular — it’s decent but doesn’t tickle our taste buds like the mango & salted coconut and roasted hazelnut flavours.

This Peters Drumstick x Messina Ducle de Leche contained 475 mL or 4 cones. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
