Sikkim Temi Tea Green Tea

This Sikkim Temi Tea Green Tea is from the Temi Tea Garden established by the Government of Sikkim in Temi, South Sikkim in northeast India.

The tea is a high-quality loose leaf of tippy golden flowery orange pekoe (TGFOP1).

Steeping 3 g of loose-leaf in 200 mL of water at 75°C, the infusion was a transparent golden yellow colour with a sweet, buttery aroma that recalled chestnut. Served hot, the floral notes of the green tea emerge delicately at the head of each sip with a gentle honey-like sweetness before developing with an enjoyable buttery body that lingered through to a brief vegetal hint in the finish.

Overall, this steamed green tea occupies a happy balance between the lighter, more vegetal flavours of a steamed Japanese green tea and the buttery notes of a pan-roasted Chinese green tea, avoiding the umami marine-flavour of the former and the bolder, astringent notes of the latter.

This Sikkim Temi Tea Green Tea contained 100 g. It was produced in India and received as a gift from acquaintances visiting India in 2019.
