Baroni Panettone Cocoa Chip

This is the Baroni Panettone Cocoa Chip, containing 14% cocoa chips (made using 16% fat reduced cocoa powder).

The panettone weighed 900 g and measured approximately 15 cm in both height and diameter. It had a well-browned exterior dotted with dark brown cocoa chips and released a sweet, eggy brioche aroma.

On tasting, the crust was firm and dry, with the base notably overbaked to the point of being inedible. Elsewhere, the exterior offered a dense, slightly tough bite before giving way to a softer interior crumb, which became more pillowy after warming in the microwave for 20–30 seconds. The bread itself delivered a mild, sweet brioche flavour with clear egg richness, yet remained on the drier side. The cocoa chips contributed an identifiable chocolate note but lacked depth and melt, reading more like compacted cocoa and sugar than true chocolate, and remaining firm even when warmed.

Overall, acceptable but unremarkable, with execution issues that prevent it from being recommendable.

This Baroni Panettone Cocoa Chip contained 900 g. It was produced in Italy and received as a gift from acquaintances in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
