Gotcha Black Medlar Collagen

So, this Black Medlar Collagen ($7.20, no ice, no sugar) was one of the drinks I wanted to try from Gotcha when it first opened in Sydney. Finally, with one opening conveniently in UTS, I got the chance to try it.

Black medlar is said to promote gut health as well as increase energy levels, while collagen is great for youthful skin. That said, I have no idea if the amounts used in this drink are sufficient to deliver on these health promises.

The drink was a translucent brown-red colour with opaque white collagen jelly and dark purple-black medlar at the base. It also does not resemble the promotional images. That aside, the drink had a natural sweet aroma that came through on tasting with a mellow, sweet flavour that’s similar to cooked apple and quince, with the skin of the black medlar having the texture of grape skin. The collagen looks like shaved jelly, giving the drink a slightly crunchy texture but adding no flavour of its own. Overall, the drink was refreshing with a pleasantly well balanced sweet and acidulous flavour.

This Black Medlar Collagen was ordered at Gotcha Fresh Tea in Sydney, Australia in October 2019.
