Ciders are out choice of alcohol in Australia, but we’re not much for drinking socially, so we tend to go for lemon, lime and bitters when the occasion calls for it. And this Hansells Mandarin Lime & Bitters All Natural Fruit Syrup is a twist on the traditional, swapping out the lemon for mandarin.

The cordial is a translucent pale orange-yellow colour with a subtly sweet mandarin-lime citrus nose when diluted with 4 parts water to 1 part syrup. Served chilled, bright notes of zesty lime came through in the head of each sip before the sweeter notes of mandarin round out the flavour in the body and the lime returns in the aftertaste. While the notes of lime are obviously identifiable and zesty, the sourness and sharpness of its usual flavour are restrained by the mandarin, making for a very refreshing summer beverage without leaving you salivating with each sip. Diluting at 1:4 creates a brighter flavour than the recommended 1:5 ratio.
