Hong Kong Dim Sim Kitchen BBQ Pork Buns

These Hong Kong Dim Sim Kitchen BBQ Pork Buns were raved about to use by D’s ex-colleague from a few years ago. We’re not much for steamed pork buns — Cantonese or Vietnamese or any derivation thereof — but we gave them a go on his recommendation.

They’re described as a ‘light and fluffy bun encasing chunks of [their] in-house roasted ‘char siu’ pork shoulder, marinated in [their] original smokey, onion-infused sauce’.

Each bun is smaller than the ones at yum cha at about 6 cm in diameter. They’re prepared by steaming (15 minutes from frozen), microwaving (1 minute on high) or deep frying (until golden brown at 190°C).

We’ve tried both steaming at microwaving methods, with the steaming method being the better method for a light and fluffy bun. The buns exploded in the deep-fryer leaving a small mess. Steamed, the small size of the buns make them fluffy bite-sized snacks with the optimal ratio between bread and the porky innards that were seasoned with just the right savoury sweetness. If we ever find ourselves craving pork buns, we’d eat these.

This Hong Kong Dim Sim Kitchen BBQ Pork Buns contained 200 g or 6 pieces. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
