Kaneka Foods x JA Okayama Muscat Gumi

This is the Kaneka Foods x JA Okayama Muscat Gumi. It used juice from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown in Okayama Prefecture and contained 2.4 billion CFUs of labre lactic acid bacteria.

Each gummy was an opaque green-yellow hue, measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, and emitted a fragrant, sweet muscat aroma. When tasted, the outer gummy had a gentle bounce, resembling a 1 out of 5 on Meiji’s softness-to-hardness scale. The muscat notes emerged promptly, first reminiscent of tropical mango and then evolving with dewy jasmine undertones, exhibiting a restrained sweetness. Instead, the jelly centre was relied upon to provide the primary source of sweetness. Featuring a gooey texture rather than elasticity, the jelly centre introduced an enjoyable contrast in texture. Chewing the gummy and jelly together, the gummy contributed a touch of soft acidity that harmonized with the sweetness of the center, resulting in an increasingly juicy muscat flavour that peaked mid-bite and lingered through to the finish, leaving no distinct aftertaste. Overall, these gummies were delicious, skillfully capturing the flavour of Muscat of Alexandria grapes while delivering a satisfying texture.
