This Lipton White Mangosteen Peach Green Tea was one of the very first encounters with the mangosteen fruit. It’s a green tea flavoured with peach and mangosteen (containing actual ‘peach juice solids’ and ‘concentrated mangosteen juice’).

It’s an inexpensive mass produced tea bag type tea containing mostly tea dust, so I’m reluctant to open up the tea bag for a peek inside.

Steeping a tea bag in 200 mL of water at 80°C for 2 minutes, the infusion was a cloudy golden straw colour with the sweet aroma of golden peach. Served hot, it’s a lighter flavour than you’d expect from the golden peach in the nose. Likely the result of the mangosteen, which tastes like a cross between the fleshy sweetness of white peach and the tropical sweetness of lychee to me, these tropical white peach notes came through at the head of each sip before a gentle acidity builds towards the body that gave way to the more buttery notes of a pan-fried green tea in the finish and leaving a slightly astringent aftertaste.
