This is the Patisserie Verduveine Kuromame Madeleine (¥185), a French-inspired baked good infused with Japanese flavours, featuring candied kuromame (black soybeans).

The madeleine measured approximately 5 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with a golden top encased in a thick wax paper liner.

Once removed from the liner and placed upside down on a plate, the kuromame component became visible, with five candied black soybeans embedded in the underside. The madeleine had a fine crumb that initially felt dry but quickly softened into a moist, melt-in-the-mouth texture with a fragrant eggy and almond-like flavour. While the kuromame contributed minimal flavour, it added a chewy, satisfying texture that contrasted well with the softness of the madeleine. Overall, the Kuromame Madeleine was enjoyable, but it lacked the moisture and flavourful depth of the apple madeleines.
This Patisserie Verduveine Kuromame Madeleine was a single serving. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Hirosaki, Japan in 2024.
