We are huge fans of the Somersby Blackberry Cider, so we’re thrilled when they released this Somersby Watermelon Cider in mid-spring of 2018 just in time for summer. Discovering its existence was the easy part. With extremely limited stock and bottles flying off the shelves, finding a store with stock proved a challenge. But we persevered and had our first sip a week later!

The cider is a translucent pink-red colour with a gently sweet and fresh watermelon aroma and a moderate carbonation. Served chilled, the watermelon was evident from the head of each sip with a gentle sweetness and developed with a crisp acidity. The balance between the sweetness and the acidity is perfect, avoiding both the intense sweetness and tartness that’s often found in watermelon candy. A hint of sharpness in the finish reminds that this sweet beverage is indeed an alcoholic cider, but its presence is less marked than even in the Somersby Blackberry Cider. Overall, this watermelon cider is refreshingly crisp and perfect for summer.
