When it comes to mooncake for Mid-Autumn Festival, there’s no end to the flavours available these days. But this Sugar Honey Lotus Paste Piggy Bicky is the cutest and most novel shape we’ve come across.

The mooncake is filled with lotus paste and in the shape of a whole roast pig lying atop a ‘table’ that’s also in the shape of a pig.

There’s detailing down to the ears, neck and tail.

His face is a bit grumpy, though.

Taking him off his table, he has golden brown colour on all the spots you’d expect on a roast pig.

Warming up the mooncake in the microwave for 20 seconds at 600W, the mooncake has the typical aroma we’ve come to expect from the pastry. The inside is filled with a smooth and lightly sweet lotus paste, which lacked the fragrant flavour of the more established mooncake brands and is dense and heavy much like all mooncake that’s filled with just lotus paste and has none of the trimmings such as egg yolk to provide relief. That said, despite the thicker pastry as a result of the pig shape, it does provide some textural relief from the lotus paste, although it doesn’t have much flavour on its own.

For what it lacked in flavour, though, this mooncake more than makes up for in cuteness! But we didn’t spend $3.60 on this novelty mooncake expecting it to taste great, so we’re satisfied.

This Sugar Honey Lotus Paste Piggy Bicky contained 150 g. It was produced in China and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
