Tohato Smile Harvest Waguri

This is the Tohato Smile Harvest Waguri, a layered biscuit featuring 0.1% Japanese chestnut paste.

Each package contained eight individual bags, each containing four biscuits. The biscuits presented in circular forms with scalloped edges, measuring approximately 5.5 cm in diameter and 3 mm thick. The structure was formed from multiple thin laminated layers of dough. The surface carried an even medium-brown hue with visible sugar crystals scattered across the upper layer. Aroma opened with fragrant earthy sweetness reminiscent of roasted chestnuts and light caramelisation.

Initial contact delivered a light crisp snap followed by a short flaky bite as the layered structure fractured cleanly. The sugar crystals introduced immediate granular texture and soft crunch against the otherwise delicate biscuit body. Texture established itself as light and controlled rather than rich or buttery.

Through the mid-palate, the sugar crystals provided most of the perceptible sweetness, as the biscuit itself remained relatively restrained in sugar content. As the crumbs softened and dispersed across the palate, mild saltiness from the dough emerged and sharpened the flavour contrast. The roasted chestnut character developed gradually rather than immediately, becoming more aromatic and earthy as the biscuit dissolved. Texture shifted from crisp fracture into a soft crumb melt without becoming dry or powdery.

Towards the finish, the chestnut profile resolved into a gentle sweet-salty-earthy combination with lingering roasted aromatics. Aftertaste carried light caramelised chestnut notes alongside mild residual saltiness and sugar crystal sweetness. The restrained sweetness and delicate structure made the biscuits particularly easy to continue eating without palate fatigue.

Overall, a layered biscuit with a gradual roasted chestnut flavour progression and delicately integrated textural development, resulting in an elegant and lightly savoury-sweet snack with controlled sweetness and clean textural resolution.
