This Uogashi Meicha Matcha Silver comes from a tea house from Shizuoka that has been selling their tea near the Tusjiki fish market in Tōkyō since 1950.

The green tea is matcha produced from the spring tencha that’s been shaded for a month before harvest, steamed and then dried without rolling before ground into a fine powder.

Prepared using 1 g of powder whisked in 200 mL of water at 80°C, the tea dissolves to an opaque, deep grass green colour with a grassy aroma. Served hot, bright vegetal notes of the matcha came through with a silky, viscous mouthfeel and develop with a gentle sweetness in the body against a mild bitterness and astringency in the background that lingered with the vegetal notes long in the finish. This is an enjoyable everyday matcha, although we prefer the more natural and less grassy flavour of more coarsely ground arabikicha.
This Uogashi Meicha Matcha Silver contained 20 g. It was produced in Japan and received as a gift from acquaintances in Tōkyō, Japan in 2017.
