Flavoured boba isn’t something we can get outside of certain bubble tea stores in Sydney, so these Wufuyuan Tapioca Pearl Lychee Flavour caught our eye when we spotted them at the Asian supermarket.

These tapioca pearls are the same size as regular pearls but differ with their white appearance and bright (and artificial) lychee aroma. They’re prepared by boiling for 5 minutes and then mixing with sugar syrup. After preparation, the pearls lose the majority of their lychee aroma and flavour and become completely flavourless when paired with any sort of tea or flavoured beverage. While the texture is acceptable, the sugar syrup does not penetrate the pearl, making them rather unappetising all round.
This Wufuyuan Tapioca Pearl Lychee Flavour contained 250 g. It was produced in China and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2020.
