Yumi’s Mediterranean Eggplant Dip

This is the Yumi’s Mediterranean Eggplant Dip. It contained 77% baked eggplant, as well as canola oil, egg, salt, lemon juice, garlic, sugar, parsley, pepper, and mustard.

The dip was a greige hue with specks of purple, green, and brown, and exuded a subtle garlicky aroma. Upon tasting, the dip offered a robust garlicky flavour reminiscent of baba ganouj, albeit with only a slight smoky undertone. The eggplant maintained a somewhat chunky texture, featuring visible bits of skin, flesh, and seeds, as opposed to being blended into a smooth consistency. This texture resulted in a less creamy dip, occasionally causing water to leech out of the eggplant in some tubs, leading to separation and a loss of the dip’s uniformly dippable quality.

Overall, while this dip served as a decent option for baba ganouj, we found the version from Aldi Deli Origins to be preferable in terms of both pricing and a creamier, smokier profile with an identical percentage of eggplant.

This Yumi’s Mediterranean Eggplant contained 200 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2023.
