This is Yumi’s Mezze Moroccan Inspired Roasted Eggplant & Spices, described as a chunky antipasto dip. It contained 37% eggplant, 7% sundried tomatoes, 3% Moroccan spices, and 2% garlic.

After stirring to reincorporate the oils, as recommended on the packaging, the dip revealed a vibrant red-brown-green hue with a fragrant aroma of spices, particularly cumin, and sundried tomatoes. On tasting, the dip delivered rich flavours of sundried tomatoes and Moroccan spices (especially cumin), with the roasted eggplant providing a subtle smoky undertone that lingered on the palate. However, the eggplant flavour was somewhat overshadowed by the spices, standing out more as the dip’s chunky texture alongside its seeds. The spices created a deeply savoury flavour profile, balanced by the sweetness and acidity of the sundried tomatoes, while a lingering heat from the cayenne rounded off the finish.

The dip’s oily texture, however, caused it to soak into crusty bread, making it somewhat soggy, and better suited for finger foods that can be eaten immediately. Overall, it was an enjoyable chunky dip, though not one for repurchasing.
