This is the Lion Sonomanma Amanatsu, featuring semi-dried peel from amanatsu grown in Japan.

The pieces varied in size, with most measuring between 2–4 cm in length and 0.5 cm in width. They were dry to the touch, coated in crystallised sugar, and emitted a bright, zesty orange-like aroma.

On tasting, the sugar crystals provided an initial crunch, immediately releasing a bright, aromatic citrus flavour. The flavour opened with a tangy orange-like sharpness, though without any harshness, before developing into a mellow sweetness reminiscent of mikan. A subtle acidity emerged mid-bite, balancing the sweetness and enhancing the fruit’s natural vibrancy. Through to the finish, the sweet-tangy citrus notes intensified, leaving a pronounced tingling sensation on the tongue from the citrus oils. The amanatsu’s distinct character was well preserved, making this a compelling seasonal snack.
This Lion Sonomanma Amanatsu contained 25 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sendai, Japan in 2024.
