This is the Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Wakayama Jabara, featuring dried and candied jabara from Wakayama Prefecture. Jabara is a naturally occurring hybrid of yuzu and a pomelo-mandarin cross, unique to the region.

Each piece consisted of segmented slices of jabara, measuring 3 to 4 cm at their widest, with hues ranging from dark orange to brown. They emitted a sweet citrus aroma without sharpness or acidity. The exterior was dry and firm, coated with sugar for an initial sweetness. However, the texture quickly gave way to a very firm chew dominated by the rind and dried membranes, as the flesh and juice vesicles were absent.
The flavour profile was distinctive: less floral than yuzu, with a sharp piquant quality reminiscent of pomelo oils that spread across the palate with a licorice-like note that reached the nose. The taste developed into a zestier citrus sourness before finishing with an aniseed-like quality, reminiscent of chinotto bitterness but more restrained. The oils left a subtle tingling, numbing sensation on the tongue, though not as pronounced as that of dekopon.

This Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Wakayama Jabara contained 19 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia and Tōkyō, Japan in 2024.
