Orihiro Purunto Konnyaku Jelly Unshu Mikan

This Orihiro Purunto Konnyaku Jelly Unshu Mikan continues our adventures through the numerous flavours in the jellies that use konjac as its base and come in its signature pouch. This one uses unshu mikan, a species native to Japan that’s known for its seedless and easy-peeling qualities as well as meltingly tender texture.

The mikan flavour came in an orange-coloured pouch and contained 16% fruit juice of which 63% is unshu mikan juice and 37% is orange juice.

The jelly is a translucent light orange colour with a zesty mandarin aroma. Upon tasting, the mandarin flavour came through sweet before sour notes develop mid-bite that recall orange rather than mandarin along with an odd savoury hint in the background. The mikan flavour wasn’t the best in the series, unfortunately, and could use a sweeter flavour to reflect the fresh flesh with some of the zesty – almost bitter – peel of the fruit.

This Orihiro Purunto Konnyaku Jelly Unshu Mikan contained 6 pieces each of 20 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Ōsaka, Japan in 2018.
