This Chatime Custard Apple Frozen Tea ($6.00 for regular, half sugar) was released after the chain had spent the month of January celebrating Australia Day with a lamington inspired frozen tea, which didn’t interest us.

The drink was a translucent white with a sweet nose and contained no actual tea contrary to its name. Upon tasting, a sweet custard-like flavour came through initially with a creamy thickness (and viscosity even when melted) and developed with a prominent sugar syrup sweetness, which gave the custard apple an unfortunate artificial finish that lingered through subsequent sips.

We were hoping for something fruity and flavourful like a Vietnamese soursop smoothie, but this didn’t deliver. That’s to be expected, though, as this Chatime isn’t made from real fruit.
