This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Iwate Wild Grape, made with juice from wild grapes grown in Iwate Prefecture. These native Japanese grapes—referenced as early as the Kojiki—are distinct from cultivated varieties, characterised by their small size and limited juice yield. Their rarity lends a particular significance to their inclusion in this regional gummy.

Each gummy measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with a soft pink-orange opaque hue. The aroma was subdued, notably lacking the strong labrusca-style musk typical of red grape products. On the palate, the gummy offered a firm, elastic chew. The exterior gave way cleanly to a tender core, which delivered a modest burst of grape sweetness.

The flavour developed gradually, beginning with a light, mellow sweetness and clean grape character. However, unlike more expressive varieties such as the Toyooka grape, this wild grape had a relatively muted profile. A mild acidity emerged midway through each bite, largely carried by the firmer outer layer, but did not introduce any additional aromatic complexity. The result was a simple, clean grape flavour—pleasant, but comparatively flat and less layered than other expressions in the same series.

This Nippon Yell Gummy Iwate Wild Grape contained 40 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2024.
