This is the Akagi Gensen Melon no Melonpan, made with 5% juice from Raiden melon grown in Hokkaidō.

Each bar measured approximately 8 × 4 × 2.5 cm. The base ice cream had an opaque cream hue, studded with golden crumbs, while the top three-quarters were dipped in an opaque pastel green coating. It carried a mellow melon aroma.

On tasting, the coating provided a smooth and crisp entry, giving way to a creamy ice cream interior generously studded with melon pan–style biscuit crumbs. The melon flavour emerged immediately from the coating, presenting as fresh with a rounded sweetness before transitioning into the body of the ice cream. The ice cream itself reinforced this melon note in a mellow, creamy form. The biscuit crumbs contributed soft crunch and a gentle golden Maillard flavour, which lingered as the ice cream receded, adding textural variety and a warm finish.
Overall, this ice cream captured both the fresh sweetness of Raiden melon and the nostalgic flavour of melon pan, which traditionally takes its name from its appearance rather than its flavour. It successfully delivered both creamy and crunchy textures, offering a playful take on melon bread in frozen form.
This Akagi Gensen Melon no Melonpan contained 75 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
