This is the Imuraya Yawamochi Ice Yomogi Mochi, a seasonal mugwort flavour released in spring.

It featured a base of yomogi-flavoured ice cream, topped with a layer of tsubuan, five pieces of yomogi mochi, and a dusting of kyo kinako.

After allowing the ice cream to soften slightly out of the freezer, the texture was smooth and creamy, with the yomogi imparting a refreshing herbal and mildly floral fragrance in every bite. Though it visually resembled matcha, it was less grassy or bitter, with a gentle sweetness. The yomogi flavour was also prominent in the mochi, where the taste was more concentrated, and dark green flecks were visible. The mochi retained its soft, chewy, and stretchy texture despite being frozen, while the tsubuan added an earthy sweetness and a contrasting texture. The kyo kinako provided a fragrant nuttiness that enhanced the yomogi and azuki flavours. Although the ingredients were familiar, featuring them in a yomogi ice cream base was unique and well worth trying and repurchasing.
This Imuraya Yawamochi Ice Yomogi Mochi contained 130 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
