This is the Lotte Choco Pie Mitsuimo Love, limited-edition Choco Pie featuring the fragrance of caramel and satsuma-imo (Japanese sweet potato).

Measuring 7 cm in diameter and 2 cm in height, it consisted of two layers of soft cake sandwiching ribbons of sweet potato cream and caramel, all enrobed in a thin layer of dark chocolate. The sweet, earthy aroma of sweet potato was immediately noticeable.

On tasting, the thin chocolate coating added richness and a subtle bitterness, complementing the sweet potato’s natural sweetness without overwhelming it. The fine, delicate cake crumb crumbled easily yet quickly rehydrated on the palate alongside the smooth sweet potato cream. The earthy sweetness of the sweet potato was pronounced, with brûléed caramelised notes emerging in the finish—reminiscent of the deep, roasted sweetness that develops when baked sweet potatoes caramelise. Overall, this was a flavourful Choco Pie with a well-balanced profile and pleasing textures.
This Lotte Choco Pie Mitsuimo Love contained 37 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2024.
