This is the Smashed Wampee Lemon Tea ($9.50; less ice, 70% sugar) from Taning Lemon Tea, featuring a jasmine green tea base with smashed lemon and wampee.
The beverage presented with an opaque light yellow hue containing visible smashed wampee flesh and lemon pulp, topped with an additional slice of lemon. The structure appeared dense and pulpy rather than clarified. Aroma opened with bright zesty citrus supported by floral tropical fruit notes.
Initial contact delivered immediate wampee notes with bright tartness and moderate sweetness, carried through a smooth jasmine green tea base. The tea contributed restrained floral aromatics that softened the sharper citrus elements without muting the fruit profile. Through the mid-palate, the fruit pulp and smashed toppings entered with a soft and pulpy texture. The wampee flavour expanded significantly here, combining tropical floral qualities reminiscent of lychee, tangy citrus brightness similar to yuzu, and a subtle plum-like salinity. These characteristics remained notably balanced, with no single aspect overwhelming the others. Texture combined the smoother tea base with suspended pulp, resulting in a layered and highly textural progression. Towards the finish, the wampee and lemon gradually receded alongside the jasmine tea, resolving into a refreshing and naturally tart finish. However, the unstrained lemon seeds introduced intermittent hard texture that disrupted the otherwise cohesive drinking experience. Despite this flaw, the beverage retained a clean and vibrant fruit profile through to the aftertaste.
Overall, a fruit tea with a layered flavour trajectory and highly textural pulp integration, resulting in a bright, zesty, and refreshing tropical-citrus beverage with strong varietal clarity.
