Opened since 2023 in suburban Dural, Cafe Saturdays focuses exclusively on one product: thick-cut slices of toasted banana bread, available in five varieties.

Signature Banana ($6.40, toasted with butter)

This version claims higher protein and fewer kilojoules than standard banana bread, while retaining the classic texture and flavour. The slice served required more toasting, but the flavour profile was otherwise well-executed. The crumb was moist, the crust nicely crisped, and the caramelised banana flavour present throughout. The texture had a good chew without being overly dense, supported by a mellow sweetness that did not overwhelm.

Banana Go Choccy ($7.40, toasted with butter)

Using the same base as the signature version, this included Callebaut Belgian dark chocolate. The chocolate added richness and depth, balancing the mellow banana flavour with a touch more sweetness. The additional toasting produced a pleasing contrast between a crunchy exterior and soft interior. Particularly enjoyable and well-executed.

Banana Go Nuts ($8.00, toasted with butter)

Also based on the signature loaf, this included roasted walnuts. The nuts provided a satisfying crunch and a subtle bitterness from the skins, which cut through the sweetness. Like the chocolate version, it was toasted sufficiently, offering both textural contrast and depth of flavour.

Café Saturdays serves generously sliced, flavourful banana bread with good textural balance. While enjoyable and thoughtfully prepared, it is not so distinct from premium supermarket or market options (e.g. MamaKaz from Harris Farm) as to justify repeat visits from out of the area.
