Nhu Y Kings Hot Bread, Ermington

While in the area, we picked up some bánh mì from Nhu Y Kings Hot Bread in Ermington.

Pork Roll ($8.00)

The roll came with lettuce, fried onions, and a somewhat dismissive attitude toward customisation—chilli appeared to be the default, and staff were unwelcoming about requests to exclude it. Consistency was also an issue, with one of the two rolls missing coriander entirely.

The salad components were underwhelming. There was insufficient quantity to provide the necessary freshness and contrasting texture, while the pickled carrot lacked proper acidity and tasted more like raw carrot dressed with light seasoning. The inclusion of lettuce—already an unorthodox addition to traditional bánh mì—was particularly unfortunate given its limp and wilted state.

The bread roll lacked the crisp, airy texture expected of a proper bánh mì. Instead, it was dense and soft, compounding the dryness of the filling. While the quantity of pork was generous, the meat itself was dry and poorly executed, leaving the overall flavour unbalanced and heavy.

Poor ingredient quality, lack of attention to detail, and an unsatisfactory texture made this bánh mì disappointing overall. Not worth revisiting.
