Pizza on the Horsley, Fairfield

We took the opportunity to try a couple of the pizzas at Pizza on the Horsley, a popular pizza joint in Fairfield recommended to us by N’s colleague.

This is the Seafood Pizza (medium, $14.00) with mozzarella cheese, tomato, prawns, mussels, clams, octopus, garlic. We enjoyed the variety of the seafood that was seasoned simply with just garlic on a cheese base as it allowed the distinct flavour of each seafood to shine. As a pizza for takeaway, though, we found the residual heat in transit overcooked the seafood and left it a touch rubbery.

This is the Four Seasons (medium, $14.00), with cabanossi, ham, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, tomato and prawns. Surprisingly, the addition of the prawns cut through the heaviness of the meat and ham. N enjoyed this pizza best of the three, but I found the cabanossi added an odd mushiness (like uncooked pork mince) that was not entirely welcome.

Finally, this is the BBQ Chicken (medium, $14.00), with chicken, mozzarella cheese, mushroom, BBQ sauce, onion. This pizza featured big chunks of chicken breast and a generous pile of mushrooms. Compared with the Pizza Hut version of this pizza, the quality of the ingredients of this version is distinctly superior, but I do enjoy the texture and thickness of the Pizza Hut original pan base.

We also tried the highly recommended garlic bread ($2.50), which impressed us by the sheer amount of garlic but not with its bold raw, uncooked flavour.

We enjoyed the pizzas at Pizza on the Horsley but didn’t find them that much more amazing than our local Pizza shops to warrant the drive.
