This is the Kanro Puré Jelly Purée Mandarin & Hassaku Orange which contained mikan orange and hassaku orange flavoured gummies. These heart-shaped gummies are 2.5 x 2 x 0.5 cm at their widest with an exterior coated in sour crystals that surround a soft interior.

The orange-coloured heart is mikan orange flavoured but gave off almost no aroma. It is flavoured using juice from mikan grown in the Setouchi region of Japan, which is well known for its production of citrus.

The crystals give the gummy a gentle crunch with the immediate section of the gummy giving a firm resistance to the teeth and bright acidity as the sour crystals melt. This contrasts with the softer, gooey centre that delivered a prominent sweetness that gave an intensely juicy quality to the gummy with more sweetness than zestiness.

The yellow-coloured heart has the flavour of hassaku orange and also gave off almost no aroma. A hassaku orange is tarter than a typical orange with Wakayama producing the majority of the fruit in Japan, including the juice used to flavour these gummies.

This orange flavour captured the more acidic and zesty notes of the orange in comparison to the mandarin, with the soft centre also delivering a sourness that amplifies the initial hit from the sour crystals. The orange flavour was fresh with the gooey centre also bringing juiciness that avoids heavy reliance on the fruit oils that often leave my tongue slightly numb.

Overall, these were very enjoyable gummies that captured the distinct flavour of different citrus.
