The tea bag consisted of crushed oolong leaves, sugar and non-dairy creamer.

Preparing one tea bag in 200 mL of just boiled water, the beverage was an opaque beige colour with a toasted tea aroma. Served hot, the tea has a fragrant oolong flavour — the toastiness reminding of hōjicha — from the generous portion of tea leaf with the more tannic notes of the crushed tea leaf well masked by the moderate sweetness.  When allowed to chill, the beverage takes on a creamier and thicker mouthfeel but the sweetness intensifies to the same overwhelming levels as the beverages made in store with 100% sweetness.

Overall, these milk tea bags are a quick way to recreate the flavour at home, but making the milk tea is always the easy part; it’s the tapioca pearls that are time consuming and the instant versions just aren’t the same.
