Mrs Macs Pastie

One of the downsides of heating food in a microwave is the tendency for pastry and crusts to go soft. But not pastries that come in ‘crisping sleeves’ made using microwave susceptors that create high temperatures and concentrate heat in the microwave. This Mrs Macs Pastie is one such example.

The pastie is prepared by heating it in the bag with both ends open for 3 minutes in a 1000W microwave.

The golden puff pastry is flaky and crisp, while the innards were a colourful mix of peas and diced carrots and turnips, with a smattering of minced beef. I usually avoid too many vegetables when it comes to pastry innards as the latter tends to get mushy and soft, but this mix of vegetables surprised me with its crunch and freshness. That said, the comparatively small amount of beef mince means the pastie tastes more like a vegetable pastie – more would’ve been welcome to give the pastie a more substantial bite.

This Mrs Macs Pastie contained 165 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
