This is the Purple Sweet Potato Pure Milk ($7.20, cold, no sugar, no ice) from Sexy Tea. The tea is a translucent light grey colour with a gentle black tea aroma. Consumed cold, the milk tea came through fragrant with a full bodied mouthfeel that comes from using milk rather than creamer. The purple sweet potato was evident as soft, small chunks that gave a gritty texture with a mild starchy flavour as they were chewed through but otherwise added very little flavour to the drink itself. It’s a decent milk tea, but it’s not much more than that.
It would appear that the drink in the promotional pictures — a drink in a clear cup with bright purple (similar to the dusting on top) lining the bottom half — is not what is served and this was evident from it being served in an opaque paper cup that’s reserved usually for hot drinks. We eat with our eyes to some extent and the deceptive advertising here is disappointing.
