As the weather warms up, our penchant for cold weather means we lose the enthusiasm to leave the house and take advantage of free delivery coupons for UberEats to keep us fed without leaving our cool comforts while also stumbling on restaurants we might not otherwise consider. This time, it’s Saute Thai Restaurant in Parramatta.
This is the Tom Yum Noodle Soup ($13.90, +$1.00 for chicken, mild spice). It’s described as a ‘spicy-sour soup with mushrooms, roasted chilli paste, fragrant lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and lemon juice’.
This tom yum has a fragrant and clear flavour that makes it a pleasure to drink in comparison to the grittiness in the one from Albee’s Secret Kitchen. The clarity of flavour likely comes from the visible fresh produce used to make up the soup, with numerous slices of galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and coriander in the soup. The cherry tomatoes added bursts of sweetness, while the button mushrooms soaked up all the flavour of the soup. The chicken is a bit dry as expected, while the rice noodles retained an enjoyable firm bite. We’re fans.
This is the Koo-Wa Gai Noodle ($17.90). It’s described as being ‘famous street food of Central Thailand, using sweet soy sauce and a stir-fry of chicken, prawns, flat rice noodles and bean shoots, sprinkled with roasted onion and peanuts’.
This dish reminds us of a good char kuay teow, with its healthy dose of fiery wok hei without being overly savoury. The prawns were juicy, while the bean sprouts added crunch along with the peanuts and onion.
We’re impress ed by these dishes from Saute Thai Restaurant and are keen to return to try more of their menu.
