The drink was an almost opaque golden brown with a sweet nutty aroma of rice. While some sediment settled in the bottle when stored, once shaken, the mouthfeel was smooth. Consumed chilled, the crisp sweetness of the nashi came through briefly at the head of each sip and developed with the distinct sweetness of barley sugar that swiftly escalated to an almost cloying sweetness in the body just as the notes of rice emerge and linger in the finish with a nutty sweetness. The drink tasted like a rice punch mixed with a hint of fruity freshness — the subtlety was unsurprising as the drink contained only artificial pear flavouring — but the rich sweetness of the punch was overwhelming. We prefer the Hatai Crushed Pear Juice and the Woonjin Morning Rice.
