Fujisei Horiuchi Aomori Chestnut Cake

This is the Fujisei Horiuchi Aomori Chestnut Cake, a dessert crafted with Japanese chestnut paste sourced from Aomori Prefecture.

Each box contained one individually sealed piece, wrapped in plastic-coated washi paper.

The cake, resting in a yellow-hued paper liner, measured approximately 5 cm in diameter and 3 cm in height.

The cake had an even, deep tan hue and emitted a sweet, nutty aroma.

On tasting, the cake offered a moist, dense, paste-like texture that cut effortlessly with a spoon and melted on the palate into a creamy consistency. As it spread, it released an increasingly fragrant chestnut flavour. The taste resembled a high-quality, rich chestnut paste shaped into a mound, with a balanced sweetness and subtle caramelised notes reminiscent of candied chestnuts. However, the earthy nuttiness of fresh, roasted chestnuts remained the focal point, with the shiroan base and sweet potato components barely perceptible. While predominantly creamy and smooth, the texture retained fine, unobtrusive granules, likely from pureed chestnut skins, adding a delicate tactile element to each bite.

Overall, this was one of the most delightful chestnut desserts encountered, offering exceptional quality and balance, making it a product well worth repurchasing.

This Fujisei Horiuchi Aomori Chestnut Cake contained 50 g (1 piece). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Aomori, Japan in 2024.
