This is the Strawberry Matcha Latte from Edition Roasters ($10.00). The cup featured a generous layer of strawberry compote at its base, topped with a regular matcha latte.
On its own, the strawberry compote had a thick, moderately sweet, and tart flavour of cooked-down fresh strawberries, significantly less sweet than a strawberry conserve. When stirred into the matcha, the compote gave the beverage a thicker and creamier mouthfeel than Edition Roasters’ regular matcha latte. The strawberry notes emerged immediately with a fresh, mellow fruity sweetness, persisting through mid-sip alongside the grassy notes of the matcha, masking much of the matcha’s bitterness, which only appeared in the finish.
Overall, the pairing of strawberry and matcha, currently popular in Sydney, offered a fresh twist on sweetening a matcha latte, making it more accessible to those who find its grassy and bitter notes off-putting. However, for those who enjoy a regular matcha latte, the pairing detracts from the traditional flavour.
This Strawberry Matcha Latte was purchased from Edition Roasters at 60 Darling Dr, Haymarket NSW 2000 in July 2024.
