This is the Grape Green Tea from Gotcha (large, $6.40, 1/4 ice, fixed sweetness, +$0.60 for golden pearls). The drink was a translucent purple colour with brown coloured pearls and a grape skin. Consumed chilled, the grape flavour that came through is surprisingly natural with a mellow sweetness and enjoyable acidity much like a red grape from Australia and without the distinct budō flavour that characterises grape flavoured foods from Japan. The grape skin adds visual interest but doesn’t bring texture to the sip, which relies entirely on the chewy pearls. Overall, this is a decent drink, but lacked the additional trimmings (e.g. fresh grapes) to command the premium.
This Grape Green Tea was purchased from Gotcha Fresh Tea in Sydney, Australia in October 2019.
