This Koyomi Highball Mandarin and Grapefruit is the last of the three flavours of chu hai released by Suntory for the Australian market. Again, it’s flavoured using natural ingredients and contained 4.2% alcohol.
The beverage was a transparent light orange colour with a bright and zesty citrus aroma and a mild carbonation. Served chilled, initial notes of mandarin came through with a mellow sweetness before a brief a hint of zesty bitterness characteristic of grapefruit marks the end of the body ahead of the bubbles cleansing the palate in the finish to leave the initial sweet notes of mandarin juice lingering pleasantly in the aftertaste. The flavour was less pronounced than the chu hai we’ve enjoyed in Japan but the flavour was natural and very enjoyable.
