Hannah’s Hazelnut Coffee

We picked up this Hannah’s Hazelnut Coffee on a recent trip to a newly opened Korean supermarket.

The coffee is an opaque very deep black-brown colour with a sweet nutty aroma. Upon tasting, an overwhelming sugary sweetness came through at the head of each sip before a moderate bitterness developed in the body that gave way to artificial hazelnut notes ahead of a bold, bittersweet artificial flavour lingering long and unpleasantly in the aftertaste. With the hint of bitter tobacco being the only marker for the coffee and the sweetness lacking any caramel-y depth, the coffee lacked presence and sophistication.

It is not the most flattering comparison, but the overall flavour and thin mouthfeel of the coffee strongly recall the futile attempts to mask the smell of tobacco with sweet air freshener in hotels and lifts commonly experienced in Japan. We prefer the Nespresso Variations Paris Praline for a hazelnut flavoured coffee.

This Hannah’s Hazelnut Coffee contained 1 L. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2021.
