Drinking fruit vinegar has been quite the craze in Korea where they are consumed, diluted for their purported health benefits. This is the CheilJedang Petitzel Fruit Vinegar Concentrate Calamansi.
The fruit vinegar concentrate was an opaque yellow-orange colour with a tart vinegary aroma. Each bottle contained 60 calamansi or 14% calamansi vinegar (water, apple vinegar, calamansi concentrate) and an additional 3.9% calamansi concentrate.
Prepared at a ratio of 1 part concentrate to 3 parts soda water, the drink had a very acidic vinegary aroma. Served chilled, an initial sweetness was swiftly overwhelmed by the punchy tartness of the calamansi vinegar, which persisted to the finish, beginning with its lemon-like acidity and lime-like sharpness and buoyed by a hint of its orange-like sweetness. The acidity was intense but well masked by the calamansi flavour in the first half of the sip before the taste of vinegar itself came through towards the end of the body with a salivating and tongue-tingling sensation that lingered briefly ahead of a clean aftertaste.
This CheilJedang Petitzel Fruit Vinegar Concentrate Calamansi contained 420 g. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2021.
