These Birds Eye Deli New Zealand Whiting Crisp Light Batter are hand-cut Southern blue whiting fillets (56%) from New Zealand. They’re described as ‘premium quality hand cut fish fillets, coated in delicious light, crispy batter’.

Each piece was around 15 cm in length and ready to eat after baking in an oven preheated to 220°C for 15 minutes turning halfway, or in an air fryer at 200°C for half the time and turning halfway. We’ve always been a little wary of baking frozen fish as the batter rarely takes on the crispness that we’re after, but after trying with an air-fryer, we’re converted. But that says more about the air-fryer than the product.

The long and relatively thin shape of these fillets make these perfect bite-size pieces with a crunchy outer coating and flaky and juicy white flesh inside. Ordinarily, we’d want the batter to be thinner but the crispness achieved by air-frying and the enjoyable savoury flavour of the batter has us enjoying these fillets as they are.
This Birds Eye Deli New Zealand Whiting Crisp Light Batter contained 250 g. It was produced in Thailand and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
