These extruded corn snacks were a vibrant yellow hue, coated with a powdered seasoning in shades of orange and off-white. They emitted a rich aroma of shrimp, although not as intense as the Koikeya Sucorn Karisaku Nōmitsu Ebi. Upon tasting, the snacks provided a gratifying crunch, followed by a light and crisp interior. A fleeting initial hint of sweetness gave way to savoury shrimp notes with a subtle hint of peppery heat, offering interest without being spicy. The shrimp oil was most pronounced in the finish, where the lingering heat added a desirable moreishness, prompting us to reach for another piece.
Overall, the combination of a lighter texture and robust shrimp flavour made these snacks enjoyable. While they successfully captured the robust shrimp flavour bite that was sought after in the Koikeya Sucorn Karisaku Nōmitsu Ebi mid-bite, this iteration lacked the initial briny shrimp notes that were present in the earlier version.
