This Smith’s Pizza Hut Margherita is the third of three flavours, after the garlic bread and BBQ meatlovers, released in the collaboration between Smith’s and Pizza Hut. I was least excited about this flavour, yet it is my favourite – the one that is not only novel, but I’d repurchase.
The chips have a prominent aroma of basil. Upon tasting, the chips have a tangy tomato flavour that’s followed swiftly by fragrant notes of basil and rounded out by the cheese in the body. The tomato and basil notes return in the finish with a prominent tanginess. The tomato flavour was different from the sweetness of Heinz Tomato Ketchup, and more like the tanginess of the tomato base found on a pizza. Indeed, it recalled a more complex version of the Arnott’s Shapes in pizza flavour from the 90s when the flavouring was generous.
