This is the Yamazaki Biscuit Co Sesame Oil and Nori.
These potato crisps had a pale yellow hue with nori flecks baked into the crisp and seasoning the surface. They had a subtle aroma with a faint hint of sesame oil but were otherwise indistinct. On tasting, the chips were crisp and light, with the nori flavour coming through immediately, starting gently before developing a deeply rich savoury umami quality mid-bite, enhanced by the nutty depth of sesame oil. The mid-bite was accompanied by a subtle ‘liquid’ feel as the flecks of roasted seaweed rehydrated on the palate, without imparting an oily mouthfeel. The flavour was complex and rich, reminiscent of roasted seaweed from Korea. Towards the finish, the potato base flavour became more prominent, blending well with the rich umami taste. This flavour was delicious and definitely worth repurchasing.
