This is the Kee Wah Bakery Winter Melon Pastry with Black Sesame.

The pastry was individually sealed and measured 8 cm in diameter and 1 cm in thickness.

The pastry emitted a subtle savoury aroma, featuring a more pronounced nuttiness than the traditional version. Similar to the traditional rendition, the incorporation of lard as an ingredient did not manifest in the pastry’s taste, resulting in a lack of the rich flavour and flaky texture typically associated with pork lard shortening. Contrary to a flaky consistency, the pastry displayed a denser texture. While the egg glaze provided a gentle sheen, it failed to impart the anticipated crispness to the pastry. The black sesame flavour contributed a pleasing nuttiness to the mash center, which was mildly sweet with sesame seeds for texture. However, both the presence of black sesame and candied wintermelon lacked the depth and complexity of flavor found in the version from Hang Heung Bakery.
This Kee Wah Bakery Winter Melon Pastry with Black Sesame contained 70 g. It was produced in Hong Kong and purchased in Hong Kong in 2023.
