Morinaga Caramel Hokkaidō Melon

This Morinaga Hokkaidō Melon Caramel is another fruity take on the original milk caramel. Hokkaidō is famous for its Yubari melon, which is well known for its sweet, melt in your mouth texture. These caramels, unlike the amaou strawberry, are available for purchase only in Hokkaidō.

The box is about eight times the size of the original at around 16 x 8 x 4 cm.

Each caramel is sealed individually in orange foil flow wrap, rather than a paper wrapper.

In comparison to the original (left) that is 1.5 x 1.5 x 1 cm in size, these (right) are slightly bigger at around 2 x 2 x 1 cm and an opaque light orange colour.

Each caramel has a sweet melon aroma that came through immediately on tasting. As with the original caramels, these give a soft chew right from the start with the melon flavour building in sweetness to give the same natural sweetness as the juicy melt-in-your-mouth flavour as the fresh and ripe melon itself. While we enjoy the flavour, as with almost all caramels, it’s not something we can eat two one after another without some relief from the sweetness.

This Morinaga Hokkaidō Melon Caramel contained 140 g or 17 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sapporo, Hokkaidō, Japan in 2018.
