These Nestlé KitKat Amazake followed on from the initial sake flavoured KitKat but before the Nestlé KitKat Masuizumi Japan Sake. Amazake is traditional sweet, low-alcohol Japanese drink made from fermented rice or sake lees with a similar aroma to sake but with a thick and creamy consistency.
Each bag contained 11 mini individually wrapped mini bars.
These KitKats contain 0.8% alcohol and consist of wafers sandwiched between sake lees and sake powder enrobed with a white chocolate flavoured with amazake.
The sweet aroma of sake lees was evident on opening the wrapper. Upon tasting, the flavour of sake lees come ahead of light fruity notes emerging in the body as the white chocolate melts to a smooth and creamy consistency to give a flavour and mouthfeel that recalled the thick and creamy consistency of amazake before lingering subtly in the aftertaste. The sake flavour here is markedly less bright than Nestlé KitKat Masuizumi Japan Sake despite the higher alcohol content, with the sweeter and creamier flavour distinguishing it as amazake.
