This Lupicia Matcha Black Soybean Rice Tea blends three teas quintessential to Japan.

The tea was a looseleaf genmaicha blended with matcha and black soybean.

Steeping 4 g of looseleaf in 200 mL of water at 90°C for 1 minute, the infusion was a cloudy yellow-green colour with a nutty and brothy aroma. Served hot, toasty notes of roasted rice came through followed swiftly by a gentle umami characteristic of genmaicha in the body that developed with a nuttiness and a hint of sweetness from the black soybean towards the finish. Overall, the tea was a beautiful balance of the defining characteristics of its individual components: the umami or brothiness of the genmaicha was restrained, the prominent vegetal notes in the matcha were mellowed, and the nutty sweetness of the black soybean was subtle.

This Lupicia Matcha Black Soybean Rice Tea contained 50 g. The tea was sourced from Japan, packaged in Japan, and purchased in Kyōto, Japan in 2018.
